Why Do People Gamble?

To Me This Is At Least One Half to Three-Quarters True Honestly

Sometimes when I go to the Casino, I feel like I'm going out of boredom. But this just hit me. I go to the Casino, because I see what my kids are going through right now.. This is sad, & true. Iwant to win enough money to help to make their lives easier. Maybe if I come out with a few hundred after it's all overI could

Freewill or impulse disorder?

Is compulsive gambling an act of freewill or an uncontrollable impulse? In other words, do people freely choose to gamble or it is a behavior beyond their voluntary control?

The reasons are different depending on the person.

Is it possible for me to quit without any counseling or groups?

Good question, is it possible for me to quit gambling alone without any counseling or groups.

I tried the meetings (Gamblers Anonymous) and did not care for them as they were only band-aids, some people will go to meetings for 15 or 20 years and still not know why they gambled. In saying this I must add that I have a very hard head. I gambled for over 20 years and was always broke, spend my last dollar many times before buying food.

Everyone is different and this may not work out for you but it did for me.

What Are Some Gambling Triggers?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences with newcomers.

-- What usually causes "triggers" for you?

-- What do you use to fight off the urges?

-- Did you find relapse common in the first few months of recovery?

-- When you find yourself succeeding, do negative memories of the past (people, events) unconsciously enter your mind?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank-you.
I gamble in the stock market so my triggers are:

1. Having what I perceive as surplus cash.

2. Seeing the stock tickers either on TV or the Internet.
